Now that I'm officially a college graduate (Yay!), I'm going on job interviews and it was time for me to step up my wardrobe and get some more professional pieces. And of course, I had to do so on a budget since I am still unemployed. Today I picked up ten items: five skirts, one dress, one cardigan, one blouse, one top, and one pair of flats...and I only spent $140! I bought things that would look good together so that I could interchange pieces to make as many outfits as possible, gotta stretch that dollar! Check out what I scored:

Okay, this was by far the deal of the century. Each of these Old Navy skirts were .97 cents! Yes, they were .97 cents each. Talk about guilt free shopping. Not only were they practically free, but they're great basics.

This skirt was $17.80 from Forever 21. I plan on wearing this skirt with a basic tank, and then I can maximize my wardrobe by pairing it with either a blazer, cardigan, or blouse.

This is a $18.90 white linen blouse from Forever 21 and I love its simplicity; I can wear it under any of the skirts I purchased today.

And lastly, I got a $25 pair of metallic flats from Gap because they will go with everything.

This past weekend instead of trekking to the bar in -2 degree weather, my roommates and I stayed in and played around with nail polish. And yes, glasses of wine were involved. We all went for a different look, but I decided to use a bright color for a much needed winter pick me up, followed by a coat of gold sparkles. It doesn't get any louder than this folks:

D.I.Y. iPod Case

It's the weekend before finals and what's a fabulous way to take a break from studying and paper writing? With a little D.I.Y. project of course. My boyfriend recently got me an iPod touch and I didn't want to spend $30 on a plastic case that I would probably end up breaking, so I decided to make my own using some scraps I had in my craft box. Check it out:

I took an old pair of light denim jeans that didn't fit, traced my iPod with a pencil twice onto the denim and cut out the pieces. I made them a little larger than the iPod so I had room to sew:

Then I took silver triangle studs and studded one of the pieces into a triangle shape. A little futuristic, no?

I took the two pieces, flipped them inside out and sewed them together by hand. When I was done sewing, I flipped the pieces back out and that's it! It took about a half hour to make and it was free, what's not to like? Just to be safe- I put some tape over the inside of the case to cover the stud backings so it doesn't scratch the iPod. You like?

Wouldn't these make great stocking stuffers? I also made one for my cell phone too, happy craftin'!

I can't believe it's that time of year again for Christmas wish lists, but hey, I'm not complainin'. As today rang in the first snowfall of the season (hello hot chocolate), I decided to share my 2010 Christmas dream list. I'd be happy with a day full of good food and family fun, but I certainly wouldn't mind finding these underneath the tree this year:

These Sperry boots are online for $98, but I saw them in a department store for half off. Aren't they a great Ugg alternative?

Finding a winter jacket I like is always a challenge; I feel like they're always too bulky. But this $60 jacket from Old Navy looks cozy and it just so happens to match those boots above.

I am a big fan of Tarte cheek stain; it gives your cheeks a natural, feminine looking flush. This holiday set is online at Sephora for $25.
I actually can't believe I don't own this book already. I'm home for five weeks over winter break, so I better start craftin'. Find it at Urban Outfitters for $20.

I'm a big fan of these dainty bow tie necklaces, they would be the perfect touch to almost any outfit. Find them at Lulu's for only $13.

Wouldn't you love to cozy up in this sweater on Christmas morning? I found it at Madewell for $88.

Happy belated Thanksgiving, hope everyone had a lovely holiday. I spent a week at home with my family in New York and loved it. I took a day trip to NYC with my sister; we went to Mood fabrics (where they film Project Runway), stocked up on some crafting goods at M&J Trim, and of course, did some shopping. I scored this $10 vintage Coach bag at home; I love how lady-like it looks:

As scary as it is for me to say, I graduate college in May. Every time I go shopping now, I can't help but start to think about transitioning my wardrobe from casual college duds to fancier, "Please give me a job" clothes. I purchased this black skirt on clearance for $10 at Gap and I instantly got excited about looking for a job and more importantly, the excuse to get dressed up everyday.

But for the time being, I think this skirt will suffice as part of my Thanksgiving day outfit.

DIY- Boho Necklace

You can never go into a craft store and just get one thing. It's inevitable that you're going to pick something up and say, "This is really cool, what can I make with this?" And sometimes that pays off- like this necklace that I made for $1.50! I found these boho beads at Michael's on clearance while shopping for my Halloween costume materials. Luckily, I had black chain at home from New York Design Shop and in a matter of seconds I had a chic new necklace that cost almost nothing to make! You like?

Psst- Speaking of Halloween, is anyone else making their costume? I'm being Pebbles and my costume cost five bucks, can't wait to show some pictures! Happy craftin'

Today was a beautiful New England fall day; the slight breeze and crisp air made me want to grab a sweater as cozy as this one! It's the perfect comfy piece to thrown on with some leather boots and a scarf. I think I'm in love.

Also, if you know me well, you already know that I take way too many naps and my bed is my favorite place in the world...so this sweater is right up my alley.

Whenever I go thrifting, I always keep my eyes peeled for vintage scarves. Not only are they usually inexpensive, but I find myself using them in so many ways to pull together an outfit. Here are some of the ways to accessorize a simple scarf:

Spruce up your exercise duds by grabbing a scarf from your closet and using it to tie your yoga mat up. So chic! All your workout buddies will be jealous.
Wear it as a necklace- tie small knots into the scarf and clasp it in the back by either tying a knot or using a safety pin. Layering different scarves would look great too! Here's mine:
Use it as a belt- cinch it around a skirt or a dress at the smallest part of your waist and tie it at the side, very flattering!

Tie it around your hair as a headband. Blake Lively rocked this look in Gossip Girl:

Whenever I need a little pop to my outfit, I grab a scarf and tie it to my handbag.
And last but not least, use them for wall decorations. Get them in funky colors and arrange them in a pattern for your wall, great for a dorm room!

PS- This morning on the Nate Berkus Show, he pressed and framed silk scarves for wall decorations. I like your style, Nate!

Back to School Cool.

Tomorrow is my last first day of school. And despite usually having my outfit picked out at least three weeks in advance (don't lie you did it too), this year's a little different. I just moved into my first place and between the moving and the unpacking I haven't had time to think about it (aka obsess over it). So it's into the closet I go! Today turned out to be quite an excellent Thursday. I've been scouring the shelves all week for the September issue of Vogue and had no luck until this morning; I hopped off the train, ran to the first newsstand I could find and there it was, in all its two and a half pound glory. I was perhaps a little too giddy about it, until of course I realized I already had two other September magazines (Marie Claire and Lucky) in my purse and that my bag just gained about ten pounds and I would have to lug them around all day. But believe me, it was worth it.

Oh, and did I mention it's their biggest issue to date? 726 pages.

It also happened to be my last day interning at New York Design Shop and my boss surprised me with the best field trip ever....the Barney's Warehouse sale!! It was as I expected it to be, overwhelming, kind of stressful and still a little too expensive for this gal's budget. But it was a fun experience non the less.

D.I.Y. Home Decor

Flipping through my mom's Country Living magazine last night, I came across an adorable Sweet 'n Low ad. I had to cut it out and use it for my first apartment, which I will be moving into very soon! I cut the owl out, covered up the Sweet 'n Low logo with a denim heart, added a little touch of sparkle with yellow rhinestones, put it in a black frame and voila!

I plan on hanging it up with a few square mirrors in my new living room. And the best part? It was free!

Tonight's a big night. Jersey Shore season premiere. Project Runway season premiere. Bethanny Getting Married. Who planned this??? Okay, here's my logic--Jersery Shore will play on Mtv everyday over and over again for the next three months until you want to rip your hair out. I already know what happens on Bethanny Getting Married; she has a baby and lives happily ever after. Does that mean Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum just rose to the top of my list? I think so. And it better deliver! They made the show an hour and a half long this season so I'm hoping that means more camera time for that gem Tim Gunn...make it work!

I have so many pairs of flared jeans that still fit, but never get worn because I'm a strictly skinny jeans girl now. I decided to take this old paid of Seven jeans and make them into shorts using just a pair of scissors. I also cuffed them to make the length just right. For a more feminine look, you could also utilize the jeans as a denim skirt by sewing the middle seam together and adding your own embellishments (do I hear a new DIY project calling my name?).

Last week, I was given an amazing opportunity assisting on a photo shoot for Tano handbags. From the styling to the hair and makeup, the shoot felt effortlessly glamourous and modern. My responsibilities ranged from organizing the wardrobe to helping achieve the perfect smoky eye. Not only am I super excited to see the pictures on their site in the Fall, but I get to rock my blue Tano bag all summer! It's the perfect size for commuting into the city and with all these zipper compartments I don't have to leave anything (mostly my absurd amount of lip glosses) behind!

Summer has officially started and I am happy to say that I am getting my chic for cheap fix thus far. I have started an internship in NYC two days a week at New York Design Shop- the do it yourself (D.I.Y.) mecca!

Their site offers a foundation for letting your creative juices flow by browsing their huge stock of D.I.Y. materials, but they also give helpful tutorials for creating runway looks and trends on a budget. Does it get any better than that? I've only been interning for a week but we've already finished some fab projects and the city scene is beyond inspiring.

And I'm not afraid to admit it. Let me just say, the Easter bunny hooked me up this year with my guiltiest pleasure... beauty products, next to the candy of course. Take a look:

This product is a-mazing! Tan Towels are a safer way of getting your pre-summer glow and are much more inexpensive than going to a tanning salon. They come in full body or half body packages- my roomates and I are obsessed!

The Easter bunny also snagged me a ton of Mario Badescu skin care product testers and I can't wait to try them all out!

And finally, something I've been wanting to try since the came out- Cover Girl's Smoky Shadow Blasts. I got mine in silver sky, which is the one photographed on the right. I was nervous to try this product but it's actually really easy; a little too glittery for an everyday look but perfect for going out.

The highly desired Liberty of London for Target premiered today in stores and my sister and I were beyond eager to check it out. The collection has been in literally every magazine I've read the past two months; but the selection was picked over and there was barely anything left. It was by far a Liberty of London letdown! I live with ten girls, and as crazy as that sounds, not only do our personalities balance each other out, but our closets do too. We all have such different styles, but if we share one thing in common it's our love for a great pair of boots. They're functional for our everyday treks across campus, yet chic for going out. I recently came back to school in snowy New Hampshire and while refamiliarizing myself with the college lifestyle, I've had lots of down time to flip through the latest magazines dreaming about Spring! My boyfriend will gladly and proudly admit he discovered Kings of Leon before they absolutely blew up. These days, you can't go anywhere without hearing their debut hit, "Sex on Fire." His avid Spin magazine reading paid off when he stumbled upon an article discussing King of Leon's clothing line. The collection comes to the states January 25th- and I can guarantee you I won't be buying my boyfriend anything from this rocker inspired line; SO expensive! Shirts for $150, fedoras for $267, and bandanas for $104? Sorry KOL, this recessionista ain't buyin' it.

I like the clothes, but I'm not blown away; these items are hanging up at Urban Outfitters for a quarter of the price.

Yogi Chic- Who Knew?

I landed a job this break working as a receptionist at a power yoga studio close by. When I'm not organizing office supplies (my personal fave) or sweeping the freshly laid bamboo floors, I'm eyeing up all of the adorable yoga clothes we have for sale. I have come to find out that the modern yogi is no longer a crunchy hippie, but rather hip and fun! All of the styles we have hanging on our eco-friendly wooden shelves can be worn outside the studio to run errands or for a quick lunch date. I'm the first to admit there's nothing like getting snuggly on a cold winter day. I would know, I'm the snuggle queen. But let's be honest here, the Ugg is the winter version of the Croc. But it seems today that the Ugg invasion is coming to a hault with all of the amazing different options of boots seen on the market today, both high end and affordable. I have three pairs of boots that I try and wear before I step foot into the wooly mammoth that is the Ugg boot. This past week, my sister and I spent our Thanksgiving evening at Michael's, the crafting mecca...cause what says Thanksgiving like a little DIY project! We bought plain canvas tote bags, some stencils and a few Sharpie's to create individualized bags; an idea we both came across on the blog, P.S. I made this. I customized mine with an "M" patch that was just simply ironed on, and created the pink stripes using a sharpie and some tape.The sharpie fumes have subsided and I can finally enjoy my new tote, wouldn't these make great party favors? This past weekend I spent a night visiting a friend at Amherst College, conveniently located just miles from not only an adorable, funky town, but an Urban Outfitters as well. I think I'll be visiting her more frequently after this little find...I'm working on a budget, so after sifting through the overpriced silk tanks, I came across a true gem on the sales rack: a turquoise fitted boyfriend blazer with cuffed sleeve detail. In Love. Rocked this bad boy today with a black tank, skinny jeans, and black and white gingham flats. It'll be great for the holiday season coming up with a skirt and some heels! Now I've really gotta plan an 80's party...take a look!

The days just seem to be flying by, and I still haven't come to terms with the fact that it's November, partially because I don't want to transition into the fashion that comes with cold weather. I'm still questioning why I didn't go to school in Hawaii. But, before the snow starts to fall, I'm trying to get creative with my wardrobe and mix it up a bit. My 80's diva costume didn't end up making it out this Halloween weekend, and I can't help but feel a little guilty for being an extremely unoriginal referee. But hey, maybe next year. What's not to love about a theme party? My Friday night was spent at a 21st birthday party with a roaring 20's theme! It was a great night...and the best part by far were the costumes. All we had to do was throw on some pearls, do a little crafting and we were good to go! Take a look at what we came up with:

We used store bought elastic headbands, gathered some feathers and rhinestones at the craft store and hot glued them all together. Now off to the thrift store to find a gem for an ugly sweater party! Now those pictures should be interesting!

Okay, this whole college budget thing isn't going as smoothly as expected. I'm trying to save money but haven't really succeeded...especially today, being that I bought these amazing black heels at T.J. Maxx. But there's a catch- I needed black shoes for a black and white birthday party I'm attending tonight, so they're kind of like a necessity, right? My parents and my bank account might disagree. Anyways, I'm off to decide on an outfit, but here's a shot of my $30 new loves:

Lying in bed with the cold all week, I snuggled up with the September issue of Marie Claire, with the always stylish Ashley Olsen on the cover. She looked flawless; she had a sophisticated, romantic, feminine feel in the spread, and for the Look of the Week, I decided to get inspired from the Olsen twins boho look. I just picked up this great bat wing champagne colored shirt for...get this...$7 at T.J. Maxx. It's super flowy and can be worn so many different ways; with a belt cinched at the waist, off the shoulder as I did today or like an oversized tee. I couldn't decide if the shape would make me look like a crazy bag lady...but for $7 I had to take it home and try it out. Here's a peek at the final look:

Seriously lacking on the posts lately, I know. But the last week has been spent doing massive amounts of reading (who knew junior year would be so hard?), getting accustomed to cafeteria food again, and not gonna lie, the occasional power hour. Having spent many hours reading magazines on the beach recently, I have noticed some fall trends I'm still not so sure about, similar to how I felt about the maxi dresses this summer. I couldn't decide whether they were brillant or irritating, and I've decided as this summer is approaching its end that they were indeed, irritating. While I can do without a few questionable trends, there are definitely some that stuck out and I'm hoping are here to stay. Here's a peek at what trends I think are hot (The looks I hope to be rockin', if my college student budget allows me), and some that are not (still haven't wrapped my head around them).

Hot:

Military Jackets- love, love, love! This is a huge trend this fall and stores like Marshall's, Target, and Forever 21 have made it super easy to catch onto...Whether you can find them in faux leather or cotton, these cropped jackets made any outfit just a little bit edgier.
The 80's look is definitely coming back; through loud, bold, makeup and structured boyfriend blazers. Throw on a boyfriend blazer and some hot pink lipstick and you're good to go...but be careful. Don't go overkill with a side ponytail and leg warmers. Less is definitely more in this case.
In the past year or so, the beauty world has definitely made changes in terms of nail polish. Nails aren't just for girly pinks and sexy reds anymore; people have become so daring in their nail polish choices. Whether it's neon, darker shades, or matte greens, pretty much any color in the book is acceptable now, which adds a little bit of fun to your everyday wardrobe. I'm currently sporting electric blue!
And finally, the Blair Waldorf look is still in. So don't pack away your flower headbands quite yet because the feminine look (ok, maybe a little bitchy too) is here to stay this fall.

Not:

Flannel- Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of flannel and with the large assortment of bright colors they are offered in, I definitely see their catch. But, I think it's a little overkill. Take a look at Delia's website and it's pretty much all flannel, a little too much for my likings, but unfortunately we will be seeing a lot of it this season.
Legging Jeans- Ok, I know leggings are still in this season but now we're making faux denim out of leggings? As if denim wasn't comfortable enough...It seems a little odd to me, because they don't look like jeans, they look like leggings with pockets. And now Rihanna's wearing them, so I'm sure Forever 21 is mass producing them as I speak.
Harem Pants- These have been around for a while and I don't really grasp it, they're unflattering, unless of course you're Lindsay Lohan.
Printed Leggings- Black leggings? Fine by me. Leopard and plaid leggings? I don't think so.

Look of the Week: Back to School!

A long week of work is over and I finally had some time to think about what I'll be wearing for back to school...which happens to be only six days away! Went to the mall today and as usual picked up some great Forever 21 finds (aka I need to stop shopping)! Take a peek at my favorite fall looks so far:

Wearing: A dress from Forever 21 that I just picked up, I love it! It's super comfortable and I can dress it down with a pair of flip flips and a fedora or dress it up as I did here with my grey ankle boots...I can't wait to wear this dress out!

Wearing: Charlotte Russe slouchy hat, Forever 21 floral racerbank tank (florals are everywhere this season!), vintage tan belt, and ankle zip skinny jeans...a casual, yet feminine look.

Wearing: Forever 21 fedora and silk floral tank, vintage navy blazer, Seven denim cutoff shorts, and Forever 21 slouchy boots; probably my favorite look, as I channel my inner rocker chick. Pretty badass, right?

Wearing: Forever 21 black and white graphic hoodie, flannel stolen from my boyfriend's laundry basket(shh!), and Target leggings with button detail on the ankle...I'm going to need to bundle up before I know it at school, so I purchased this hoodie today, a really great layering piece!

It's been a busy week full of work and trying not to melt in this heat...so my look for today had to be something work appropriate (I work in a yoga studio so almost anything goes) yet functional, so I paired a $5 Forever 21 tank with a grey American Apparel skirt, vintage belt and some silver necklaces. Finding new ways to organize my makeup:

The big glass margarita bowl used to be the home of my fish (RIP Margarito), the teacup was found amongst my moms vintage glassware during the intense amount of packing done this summer, as well as the french tin flower can which conveniently stores mascaras and tubes of lip gloss. It's a chic way to dress up my desk and everything is easily accessible! I also came across this matching saucer which efficiently holds my favorite go- to bracelets:

I've been seriously lacking on the blog updates; my inspiration notebook where I write down ideas for posts was put in storage by accident in the move, bummer. But, I've had lots of time to find new ideas and topics after going through the stack of fall magazines I've gathered this week. I've got a few Do It Yourself (DIY) ideas that I'm hoping to get through before I head off to school later this month. Just got back from a week long mini vaca at my boyfriends in the lovely state of New Hampshire. Lots of fun in the sun and my personal favorite- back to school shopping. Okay, maybe a little early but I've totally been itching for fall lately! I'm usually loving the sandal and summer dress look in the summer but the fall trends have got me excited...Military jackets will be all over the place and since I already bought an ivory motorcycle bomber at Urban Outfitters, I went for a different look with this comfy blue striped jacket. Ok, two days late but the Look of the Week is finally here...my friend Becky and I are enjoying a lovely humid Wednesday by unnecessary beauty shopping and playing dress up with our new fall blazers. While they are both entirely different looks; Becky's is a structured pinstripe blazer, mine an ivory, cotton, motorcycle jacket, yet they are both affordable and versatile. A girl can dream, right? Take a peek at some very desired pieces for the fall...

This Urban Outfitters blazer is so fun and bright! I love the detail on the cuffed sleeves; something I've wanted to do to a vintage blazer but just can't seem to find the right one. Not to mention the color is so unique! Hmm, to splurge or not to splurge...

I have a pair of suede flat boots like these and they make any outfit sophisticated and chic. These boots from Alloy are really reasonable and could be paired with so many things- dresses, jeans, or leggings.

I found these bracelets online at Target, and for $10, I had to have them but unfortunately are out of stock! They can be mixed or matched and I'm loving the black and blue combo already...I'm hoping I can find these bracelets to add an edgy pop to my wardrobe!

Look of the Week: Sophisticated Feminine

For this week's look, I had to choose something that was appropriate for work; which meant something comfortable but professional, so with this hot humid weather I went for a softer look. I paired a high waisted Forever 21 blue skirt (perfect for summer!) with a floral Forever 21 blouse and my new faux Chanel thrift store find! The outfit was completed with a navy blazer and gold sandals...take a look at the relaxed, feminine, outfit of the week:

Like I'm sure many of you out there, I've been trying to cutback on my spendings...especially in the clothing department because that's where a large portion of my paycheck always ends up going. I have to admit; I've done pretty well so far, with the exception of thrifting. I've been loving going to consignment stores and thrift shops lately because everything's so affordable and the pieces are unique. For example, last week in Cape Cod when we went to the flea market, nearly everything I picked up was a $1...including these vintage clip on earrings I just had to get:

Today I ran into a local thrift store and came out very pleased; I bought a white, quilted, faux Chanel bag, something that I was considering buying from Topshop but am very glad I didn't. And the best part? It was a $1.50! What's not to like? Take a look at the bag I purchased vs. the much more expensive bag I was going to buy online:

I've been feeling a little less guilty about purchasing items at thrift stores or Goodwill because they're ridiculously inexpensive...might do some more thrifting on Friday with my friend Katie, Wish us luck!

Look of the Week: Preppy Casual

After a wonderful, relaxing week on vacation, I am now home and unfortunately, reality has set back in; which means doctors appointments, packing for my families upcoming move and some serious organizing. So, for my outfit today I gathered inspiration from the endless amounts of Gossip Girl I have been watching on Netflix and went for a preppy look, yet still maintaing some comfort. Check back on Mondays for my look of the week where I'll be sharing some more pieces of my personal style, but for now check out my wanna-be Blair Waldorf look:
